As the morning sun peeks through the porthole, she slowly climbs out of the berth. She can hear him up above, singing to himself over the hum of the idling engine. With a heavy heart and hesitant footsteps, she forces herself to climb the stairs, forces herself to climb up into the sunlight, forces herself to face her worst fear – there are still three days left of …. The Sailing Vacation From Hell!
Moby Dick sits in the cockpit of the sailboat, sipping his coffee and looking at a chart. I rub my eyes and look again. Yes, he is actually consulting a map! I’m more than a wee bit surprised, so I sidle over and nonchalantly ask him what he’s doing.
“I’m just trying to get my bearings after yesterday’s storm, and plot our course back to the marina,” he says.
“Why are you running the engine?” I ask. “I thought this was a sailboat.”
“Very funny, Miss Smarty Pants. I’m running the engine so I can charge the batteries; we only had it running for… OH SHIT!!!!” he exclaims as he jumps up and shuts the engine off.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
“I had the boat in gear!” he yells as he runs to the front of the boat and starts to pull up the anchor line.
As I watch him, I realize that the line is coming up suspiciously fast. Then, as the end comes out of the water, I realize why – there is no anchor on the end of it. Yes, Moby Dick has struck yet again! By having the boat in gear while we were anchored, the boat was moving forward and ran over the anchor line, which the propeller just happened to cut in half. Ching, ching, ching, another blow to the wallet.
“How the hell are we supposed to get through the rest of this trip without a f@#%$* anchor???” I yell.
“I think I saw an extra one under the seat,” he says hopefully.
Yep, he was right, there was an extra one, so he went up and tied it on the end of our much shorter anchor line.
“Great,” I say. “How much is this going to cost us?”
“Oh, don’t worry,” says Moby Dickhead, “we’re going to snorkel for the lost one.”
Lesson #7: If your harebrained boyfriend ever hatches this sort of plan, jump off the boat and swim. Swim for your life.
So, against my better judgment, into the water we go with all of our snorkel gear on. I, of course, am blind because I’m afraid to put my contacts in, and my glasses won’t fit under the snorkel mask. Due to the storm the day before, the water is still a little cloudy, even thought it isn’t very deep. I grope around blindly for about fifteen minutes, then I spot something long and skinny moving in the water. Could it be the rest of the rope that’s attached to the missing anchor? I eagerly swim toward it, and just as I reach out to grab it, I realize it’s not a rope at all – it’s a long skinny fish with GIGANTIC SHARP TEETH! Holy Crap!! I have never swum so fast in all my life! I scramble up onto the boat and gasp for air. Meanwhile, Moby Dickhead pops his head up and angrily asks me why I am back on the boat.
“I just saw a big fish with gigantic teeth! There’s no way I’m staying out there, “ I say.
“You’re full of it,” he says, very pissed off indeed.
I sit on the boat and watch him out there, snorkeling around in what I know will be a futile attempt to find the damn anchor. All of a sudden, he starts swimming like the hounds of hell are after him. As he climbs up onto the boat, I ask him why he’s back.
“I just saw that fish you were talking about,“ he gasps.
Lesson #8: He who laughs last, laughs best.
I was rolling on the deck of the boat, laughing so hard I almost peed my pants. Needless to say, that was the end of the search for the anchor. We hauled up the spare and set sail.
Is this the end of the adventure for the day? Absolutely not! This was just beginning.

Too darn funny Rebecca! See fish with teeth, the exact reason why you will NOT find me snorkeling, EVER!
Beeswax, oh the joy of it 😀
I get my wax in 1 lb bars and have a crock pot devoted to it, so I don’t have to worry about cleaning it out. I also have a little travel iron that I use to go back over it to smooth it out if I want an even finish to it. Here’s a book cover I did with it…

LOL @ swap virgin, you’ll be hooked, they are so much fun! The last one I did was really cool. We each started with a blank canvas and the “owner” created the background and set the theme and then we all added to it as it came our way. They all turned out quite beautiful.

g,
If Helene’s is done, I’ll ask if we can put it up here! I am behind on mine (surprise, surprise), I’ll see who’s up next. Oh please, a boring existence? I think all those beautiful photos of yours contradict that. Thanks for the compliments, was it the bracelet? I can’t remember which one it was. I try to scrapbook, that’s how this whole thing started, but it just takes me soooo long to do one page. I’m pathetically slow. Are you knitting me a granny square vest?!?!
t,

I’m here, g!! (hey, are you no longer gg?? hee hee)
So we had a busy little ol weekend around here cuz it’s the annual “Asparagus Fair” here in our town of Gavà, Spain this weekend.
We have this historical tradition of an annual fresh produce fair, highlighted by the traditional production of a local species (genus?) of white asparagus.
So it’s sort of a farmy-type show. What’s REALLY really amazing is the comptetitions they have for best fresh produce display,
and then the artsy stuff they do with SEEDS and PEELINGS!!
Annie and I are going to take a stroll up today to see the displays, cuz it was a complete zoo all weekend, too many lineups, and I’ll take some photos to show you all…it’s really something amazing…
I took a little afternoon nap with my BD and SH yesterday, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening changing over computers–my SH is *GIVING me HIS* which has like 4 times more memory and lots MORE POWER!! so that I can do things like play with THE GIMP (a free linux-type sw-like Photoshop, cuz we’re cheepies and prefer to use free shareware from the Internet–my SH’s a big Linux fan, so I am humouring him) and all the hundreds of brushes I have downloaded and not choke my computer’s vitual memory and cause myself huge MELTODOWN TANTRUMS!! (which was what was happening with my computer…!)
Now have you EVER seen such a selfless demonstration of love and devotion to a First Mate pursuing her *heart’s desire* (aka scrapbooking and crafty stuff) than recinding one’s computer for the cause!?!!?
(Actually I think that Brian making G a table is pretty up there too)
WHAT A GUY!!!!!
And here’s a little tidbit of niceness from my day yesterday:
On Sunday, April 29th: “I’m a winner!!”
http://lavidacolorida.blogspot.com/
(just scroll down till you see my “white” layout) I won the Spain scrapbooking site’s “monochromatic challenge” with my “spread your wings” layout. just so you know, it’s not anything like in north america–they’re weren’t that many other submissions to compete with, and the level is, well, pretty novice over here. But what the heck! It still feels nice to be chosen as DA WINNAH 🙂
And what do you all think of this:
my bestest galpal is starting a new business here in town, in a locale that happens to be a block from my place. She’s a reiki, ayruvedic massage chick, so she’s setting up a room to do that in, and the front of the local will be the shop, where she will sell “Occitane de Provence” brand products and another Spanish franchise of “gramma’s medicine cabinet” rustic home-made type creams and lotions and remedys and beauty prods.
So then she has this huge space behind the shop, “behind the curtain” so to speak. And you know what she wants THAT space to BE????
She wants ME to RUN SCRAPBOOKING CLASSES!!!! and do crops…!!!!!!
She’s already asked me if I would be ready to advertise!?!??!
And I was like “NO!?!?! holy crap!! Let me make some albums and stuff first, at least!?!?!?”
But doesn’t that just blow your mind!!!?!? She’s my number 1 fan and is so keen to do some scrapbooking and play with all the prods (remember that scrap is COMPLETELY NEW here in Spain–people can hardly pronounce the word, much less know what it is, so it’s in its infancy) and wants to have that big space in the middle of the locale as the scrapbooking space! There’s room for a big table in the middle, shelving on the walls…I tell ya! I could “just quit my dayjob” right now, but I guess I should learn a bit more first, seeing as I only have 3 LAYOUTS to my resumé!! haha.
The Spanish scrapbooking store/site is running workshops at the end of May that I plan to attend–two by Lance Anderson from Rusty Pickel, and two by Jenn Star from Ranger (r’s buddy, as is would so have it!! small world!!) so I hope to broaden my crafting horizions there a bit…
but I’m just so tickled that my bud wants to give me an entire ROOM in her new locale so that we can play with scrapbooking products!!
I wanna do it NOW!! 😉 heh heh.
****So any tips, hints, suggestions… on how I should go about becoming “Spain’s First Scrapbooking Diva”????!!!!*****
okay, I’m gonna go make my kid some breakfast! poor thing, she’s been sitting there saying “momma! I want toast wid budder!!” for the last 10 minutes while I type all this!! 😉 Good thing Clifford the big red dog is on!
bfn!

MARTA,
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just don’t tell them you’ve only done 3 layouts! I don’t actually scrapbook at all. It’s my SH all the way. He is just too shy to say, “hey, I’m the creative genius in this relationship, not HER!” so I take all the credit. No one knows and no one has to EVER find out!
“GO FOR IT” i say. you have lots and lots of talent and you will develop it along with your students. as long as you can stand in front of a group of people and speak and speak effectively, you are well on your way.
DO NOT pass up this opportunity. grab it and run…you will be successful. you can write, you can create, and I would bet my house you can speak in public without any difficulty. There is nothing left to say about that. besides, you already have a “DA WINNAH” under your belt and you can advertise that!
You will learn a bunch from other people too so take classes and learn stuff as much as you can IN PERSON. Nothing beats “live” classes and I don’t just mean the teacher has to have a pulse!
feed your child as you go along. Let’s NOT forget I did law school with 3 kids UNDER the age of 4 with Jasper only 6 weeks old when I started 3rd year law. My kids have suffered NOT because I pursued my dreams…as a matter of fact, I think it made them realize ANYTHING is possible if you have the desire. well, o.k., you have to have at least SOME brain cells. HOWEVER i made sure they always had “toast wid budder” even if it was from last week.
QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!! do you absolutely NEED the money???? How much would you have to make at the scrapbooking thing to make it worth your while to quit your day job?? look at that. Look at the joy aspect, the “i’m living my dream” aspect. let that HELP you decide.
start small and get big as you grow and learn. It won’t take long…
let’s remember, this is only my opinion which may be worth squat.

wow! g!!!! what an amazing pep-talk!!. You’ve got me pumped up and ready to go go go!
Thanks.
Thanks for your vote of confidence, and for the comments re. talent and what it takes…and for the very important point regarding my day job and earning my kid’s daily bread…and budder! heh heh 😉
thanks, buddy!
and ps. your opinion is worth ALOT.
On other topics–I took some great pics today at the Asparagus Fair! AMAZING things were done with fruits and veggies, you won’t believe it! I’ll try to get some pics sent over to r, and she can decide if she wants to post them here on da blog.
it’s late–time to hit the hay.
ps. I love Mojitos and Cava Sangria in the summer, oh, and Pastis, and fav aperitif is red Vermut on ice with lemon.
A good dark rum, Bourbon/orange if I’m out on the town, and a champagne Kir if I’m feeling really snooty and the bartender knows how to make it…
How’s that for choices!…but guess what–I hardly drink now cuz I’m still nursing. Just a little beer and wine here and there. Sigh.

No, of course, T, I am greatful for Jan’s comment as well…obviously!! and thanks T, for speaking your mind.
(It was late last night when I was online and simply didn’t take more time to reply.)
Thank you, Jan, for your feedback!! Yes, it is an exciting opportunity–I really feel like I have to get on this because of things being at such a “strategic time” here, like it’s so ideal to be here with scrap being in its infancy, and the market completely open–there are no scrap publications, or paper craft publications here, for example. (it’s all patchwork, lacemaking, knitting and petty point) No nuthin for paper and altered art!!…I still can’t get over that one! So that’s another area that is COMPLETELY open!!!
Nobody here to represent companies and their products (hmmm. it would be cool to be a “certified Ranger chick, for ex.)
So yah, I would love to be a part of the action.
And part of me says, “hmmmm….let’s look at the serendipity of all this and what it’s trying to tell me…” So yah, we’ll see what happens!
Today’s a holiday here in Spain: “Labour Day”, so my SH’s home for the day. Gonna go make them some pancakes! 😉
Catch you all later! MV

HELLO EVERYONE, WILL I EVER BACK BACK TO THE SCRAPBOOKING GP WORLD AGAIN…I WONDER. LIFE HAS BEEN SO CRAZY THAT THERE AREN’T ENOUGH HOURS IN THE DAY. I WISH I HAD A PLACE IN MY HOUSE WHERE I COULD GO TO SCRAP. BUT NO THAT’S NOT THE CASE HERE. I HAVE TO TAKE EVERYTHING OUT AND USE THE DINING ROOM TABLE WHICH SUCKS. ANYWAYS NOT TO COMPLAIN IT AIN’T WORTH IT.
I RECEIVED MY LIBRARY CARDS TODAY. yeah, now i’m laughing because you think i have a clue what to do with them…i don’t. any hints from my friends. are we suppose to scrap on the pocket or the card. ok i know i’m a ditz but have never used these things before. Was their any decision made if we are suppose to do the samething on all or different.
Well congrats to miss spain on the offer of becoming a scrapbook diva in spain. I think it’s awesome and you should go for it. What a chance. I wish
sometimes that there would be a place like that for ma and my bestfriend. It’s always fun to make some money in something you like to do.
My little chics are growing up and i don’t have to be at home so much. It’s crazy to think i’m at this place in my life where i’m moving on the the next section where i don’t have anymore little ones. I want to tell you girls it’s a strange feeling.
Well enough of the mobo jobo. I just want to say my drink is vodka martinis. love apple martinis are cranberry, grapefruit & vodka.
Well my friends. that’s about it for now.

Hi Marissa! Nice to see you back. I won’t butt in and say anything i shouldn’t about the cards because I can’t remember the theme or what the decisions were.
Nice to see you back.
appears as though I have pissed off maybe Tammy and Jan by posting a long comment to marta. Sorry gp’s!!!!! didn’t mean to take over BD’s blog like that! Jan, I hope you aren’t mad at Marta. Her and I have been discussing these issues for a LONG time, going way back. I think this was the first time she actually posted it for everyone to see as opposed to a personal e-mail to me. I have been encouraging her to post on the blog all of these things so we could all share in her happiness. She also knows I typically am a woman of few words, so I think when she saw the BIG LONG response, that’s what caught her attention.
I know for A MATTER OF FACT she appreciates every word every one of you says and shares with her, NOT just what i have to say.
as far as getting my “ass thanked on here” let’s all just avoid doing that in the future. I don’t need thanks. I do this because I love ALL you gp’s and Tammy, GOOD thing i KNOW YOU SO WELL and KNOW you’re a feisty gp!!!!
just so the rest of you know, Tammy and I go back a long time and I don’t take what she said negatively AT ALL!! as a matter of fact, I expect her to speak her mind. She has spoken her mind many times in MY defence as well…just never about my fat ass before! haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
i’m off to take a guilty plea on a child sex assault. It is going to be a good day. i don’t have to run the 3 day trial. YAY!!!!!!
o.k. is everyone good???????????

Marta Vonnegut
Hi, Marissa! Good to see you back! And I hope everything is going well in your orbit! I am like you in that I have no space buy my dining room table for scrapping and have it all in a big plastic tub against the dining room wall…so I can totally relate!!
Thanks too, for the congrats, Marissa. Yes, I plan to make use of the opportunities and see what happens. It would be fantastic if I could make it happen. So we’ll see how things go from here on in.
Hi, all, just wanted to add my 2 bits here with what g said–yes, the way she describes it is in fact the way it went/is. Especially the part about the fact that g’s response was more than the usual couple of lines 😉 …it DID catch my attention, and for that reason I responded to her comments specifically.
Bottom line, I brought it up here because I was excited to share with you all, and even more importantly, because I consider ALL of you to be MUCH more experienced and having more milage in “all things scrap and crafty” than I do, as I have only been getting my toes wet (or rather, fingernails dirty ;)) for a few months now. So I consider ALL of your thoughts, feedback as equally valid on the subject. And very much appreciate all of it. And am grateful to r for allowing me to blab here on her blog about my scrap crap!!
Given that I know that g already has the experience of running her own scrap retail store and has taught lots of classes, I appreciate her thoughts on what I might be getting into.
I am unaware of which of the rest of you also has experience this way (apart from Margot, but I would just go to her blog to ask her, so…), so I apologise for not asking any of “youz” directly that way.
I hope that clarifies it 😉 and I too hope everyone is good……!
So r, I’ve got a bunch of pics from the Aspargus Fair–would you like me to send them on for a little more “show and tell from Spain”?

Okay, I think Margot is proposing taking scrapbooking to an entirely new level…
HEY! That’s crazy enough, it just might work!!
Now wouldn’t that just be an empowering statement of altered art, to RECLAIM tampons as TAGS!?!?!? LMAO
You could dish them up a bit with some distressing ink, you know, to make them look groovy…!!…but stay clear of the Fired Brick pad, cuz you know, that would be a “little too graphic”!!!! 🙂
add some bling here and there, a couple of flowers, some rub ons…
Next thing you know it won’t be coffee filter albums anymore, it will be “Stayfree Panty Liners with WINGS albums”!!! 🙂 har har!!

Wow marta, can’t believe you got your package already! Glad I paid the extra, they said four to six weeks the regular way. I thought I heard the post office guy wrong when he said that! Pics forn the asparagus fair are awesome, I can’t believe some of the artwork! Just think what they could do with feminine hygiene products, bwa ha ha! I’ll have to post some later (fair pics, not tampons and pads)!

OMG! I love it!
Okay…confession…I BRIEFLY dated a guy who used Kotex tampons dipped in food color to decorate his ceiling in his apartment.
Freud would have a field day with that one! I’m strange…but even that one was too much for me. He’s a guy…unless you can use them…I don’t think you should make art with them. JMO!
I am officially using feminine hygiene products in a project…I’ve already featured a tampon case in a book…why the hell not?!
ACK!
You guys are GREAT!
