Stunning. That is the first word that came into my head when I saw Lisa’s layout for the first time. I am so honored that she is letting me post it here. Once again I am amazed by the talent that is to be found in our little group. All I can say is “Wow, this is only her second one. Imagine what her fiftieth will look like!”

Hey, gps!! it’s the wee hours of the morning (well, it’s 7:19, but on a weekend, that’s the wee hours, okay!?!?) and I just got up for a drink of water…
I’m so thrilled you guys like my LO!!!
I’m pleased with how it turned out, even though it is quite different from my original idea (my original idea included all these little “tile photos” around the edge as a frame–they were images of women giving birth, most in squatting postions: rock paintings, greek relief sculptures, egyptian heiroglyphics, hindu sculptures, prehistoric images…but it was too noisy; it was like 2 layouts at once, so I let those go)
If anyone is having trouble reading the journalling, pleez let me know and I will repost it here. I’ll just do a copy paste from my computer.
If anyone wants me to email them the image, I will be pleased to do so.
Questions:
JAN- you were asking about the crevice? do you mean the border along the background of my photo? I just drew along the edge with red metallic ink, if that’s what you mean.
THe journalling I printed out onto light cardstock and cut them out individually and glued them on. How’s that for tedious!?!
Yes, that’s DNA. The idea that how to give birth is embedded in our DNA and nobody has to instruct us on how to do it, it’s as second nature to us as breathing, as our hearts beating.
R-no, haven’t read the Red Tent. Thought I think I heard something about it. I have read books like “The Chalice and the Blade”, though, and lots of similar stuff, all predecessors to the Davinci Code. When the DC came out, I was like, oh yah, that one. THe Chalice and the Blade really rocked my world, years ago when I was in my early 20s.
here’s the journalling:
Here marks the moment of my personal triumph against this conspiracy of fear. It’s a very old story of women in the world. We once had our power, we knew our way, and came together as mothers, daughters and sisters to hold one another and dance in joyfulness. We honoured our bodies; we honoured the sacredness of childbirth. Somewhere along the way, however, we were made to fear our bodies. Made to believe they don’t belong to us. We stopped listening to our instincts, given to us by all women who come before us, and to dutifully follow the dictates of others; of the professionals; those who are not mothers. In childbirth, so fearful of the pain, we let our bodies be amputated, and violated. We let our experience be crippled. This is the medicalization of childbirth. Yet our bodies know. We must trust this, for it will carry us. Because we are mothers. This fear does not belong to us. We were meant to grow powerful, to triumph through our childbirth. To feel our body honoured. It is what belongs to us. And it is sacred.
annie’s screaming…gotta go!!

oh, and the “leaf” print border I did with parsley. and then I used “the only stamp I currently own”, if you can believe that!, which I bought a couple years back in Scotland, to stamp on top.
I had such a time with printing out the text!! We have 2 computers at our place, plus a laptop (we are both geeks). The Codex font is downloaded on my computer. The printer is on my SH’s computer which uses Linux. And I couldn’t get the damn font to come out, even after downloading it onto his computer. So I took it to the photocopy shop. But they didn’t have the font either so they said to save it as a pdf and come back and that should work. But I don’t have the right software on my computer to save to pdf. So I downloaded a free trial one, blah blah blah, but it STILL didn’t come out with the right font, just substituted another “inappropriate” one! And my SH’s computer has the right thingie to convert to pdf, using Open Office, but I still wouldnt be able to get the font to come out on his computer so…and I’m starting to get a LITTLE pissed off at this point.
So I tried saving it as a TIFF image…and that sort of worked except it wouldn’t save the copy I had made with black bkgrd and red lettering, only the ones with grey bkgd and white lettering. And I didnt WANT grey and white. I wanted black with red. ARGHGHHGHH!
So I problem solved with my little pea brain. I adjusted the text on my monitor and did a SCREEN SAVE for each section of the text and saved them on a Word and took it back to the photocopy shop and had them print it out on heavy paper that way….ANd it FRICKIN WORKED.
Take that! stupid computer font thingie no-good dumb pdf maker stinky dumbhead!!
So ya. And then I had the incredibly inane task of cutting and pasting all those little “to”s and “of”s and “and”s and “the”s!!! I was wonder who’s idea THAT was!!
BUT! I’m really liking how it all came together.
And I am so glad you guys “get it” 🙂
thanks again for all your praise. I am having a good day today 🙂
(plus my SH just got promoted yesterday, so we are just one big happy smiling family this weekend!! heh heh!
I hope you all have a great one! talk to y’all soon.

Hi, Jan–I did an “images” search on Google for “double helix” and found one I liked, then I save it to my computer and then cropped it and flipped it vertically, took the photo of me and positioned it on top and then printed it onto photo print quality paper, and voila! presto changeo!

So, what’s everybody been up to today?
HOwz the weather over there now, rebecca?
still drinkin piña coladas in the freezing rain?
T, your blog is starting to look very perky! you’re gonna end up having a serious blog going on, you know!
g, your kits arrived in the mail today! whoo hooo! what fun!! I am so excited to play with them.
One of my buddies was over when I opened the parcel and she was all “ohhh! I want that ocean one!! I want it! I want it!”…so I might end up letting her do that one. Cuz she always does my dishes when we have them over for supper…the mark of a true friend, eh!!
Annie is sleeping in my lap as I type this. I guess I’ll go put her in bed and then go make myself a cup of hot chocolate. Has anyone every had the hot chocolate they make in Spain? it’s the most decadent thing in the world. It’s like hot chocolate pudding…super thick and creamy!!

Hey gp’s! What’s new? I’ll do a new post tomorrow, I just hate to take lisa m’s layout down, it’s so gorgeous! Jan, I totally missed the whole DNA thing, duh. Too many PC’s. Everything is still covered with sleet here, but the roads are now passable. Tomorrow I am getting out of here, I have cabin fever. Nothing that a trip to the thrift store won’t cure!

hey, rebecca! thanks–there’s not much for stamps available around here right now, so if you have any to spare, that’s really sweet of you. Though actually I was thinking of trying out the entire “green leafy vegetables” food group for stamping possibilities, you know, just to see what it turns out like!!! heh heh 😉
Kriss, thank you. I think maybe I was just a “scrapbooker waiting to happen”…I’ve just simply never had a chance to get my hands on any of the products before, as scrapbooking has only appeared in spain in the last half year. and I was just too lazy to order stuff from abroad!! heh heh 🙂
though I would like to POINT OUT that ms. gloria froese was somehow the CATYLIST. I don’t know exactly what it was, but I just found myself looking at her blog one day and all of the sudden it hit me (“this woman is a complete whack nut!!! ha ha just kidding, g!!). There was something about her style that made it look like something I would like to do. Up until that point most of the layouts I had seen didn’t seem like me. they were a little bit too “clean and safe”, with everything in its place, everything all properly set up on the colour wheel…y’know?
And then I saw g’s stuff and said “wow. f’in A”…
…and then I just had to put on some Meatloaf and break out some cardstock!! heh heh!!
hope everyone’s having a good evening. It’s beddie time over on this side of the world. My bd was up at 5am this morning, bright-eyed and bushie tailed, singing “let’s read a story, Momma” in my face!!! and I said to myself “did I sign up for this!?!?!” 🙂
ciao for now!
March 19, 2007 at 8:36 pm
g
Lisa, i may have been the catalyst, but you OBVIOUSLY have a lot of talent! STAMP WITH LEAVES. Use ink, I mean REAL INK. the ones you dye fabric with. use them undiluted. paint the back of the leaves and stamp away. i have done some absolutely amazing things with leaves, pressed flowers etc. Never used veggies, BUT HEY…WHY THE FUCK NOT RIGHT??? carve your own stamps out of erasers and corks. IT IS SOOOOOOOOOO easy!! Right R?? I get the feeling Rebecca is a nut case rubber stamper…probably could teach us all a thing or 2 about rubber stamping…
i have carved LOTS and LOTS of my own stamps out of erasers and have about 50 of my own carved corks. they are very simple images on the corks (not a real big surface to work on!) and I LOVE them. I used one on that little robot v-day tag, if you remember it…the little heart.
before I had the carving tools, I used an exacto knife. You get real good at it, BELIEVE ME.
anyhoo, keep up the experimenting Lisa. that’s all it takes…the courage to try.
g
March 19, 2007 at 9:04 pm
lisam in spain
now that I think of it, I think I spent most of my secondary education carving my eraser during class!!! and all along I thought I was doing it for nothing…it was preparational training for my scrapbooking skills. Now it ALL makes sense!
ink, cool. will try. sounds like FUN –love cutting stuff with my exacto knife, except my phalanges. but yah, I love intricate stuff like that, so will do. I’ve been saving all my corks, got a whole bunch in a drawer–was going to make a cork board…
opps! Annie’s howling–gotta go (bloggus interruptus once again! ciao!)
March 19, 2007 at 10:19 pm

I thought I heard someone calling me….did I hear someone say nut case rubber stamper? Did you know you can stamp with fish? You’ve got to be a hard core nut case rubber stamper for that one! And yes, I cannot draw my way out of a paper bag, but I can carve stamps. So if I can do it, you can too Lisa. Ok, new techniques post tomorrow, yay! Break out the sardines and inkpads!

just a quick question for you, rebecca. When you say sardines, were you referring to fresh ones or the ones in the can? And if I’m all out of sardines, can I use anchovies?

Only fresh ones will do! You can substitute anchovies, but only if you’re going to be stamping with a little romaine lettuce and crispy croutons.

so Lisa, how about feathers??? they make AWESOME stamps. Just use a “drier” ink.
i’ve never stamped with fish. i’ll give it a go with dinner tomorrow night. I think I’ll use blue ink and not bother to wash it off and them i’ll tell the kids I made the “blue fish” for dinner. Betcha they eat it all! OOPPS, never mind. For sure they will suspect something BECAUSE I DON’T COOK!!!

i LOVED the past BA challenge. I felt so at peace doing it. it was really weird, almost as though the train whistle was sounding far off in the distance the entire time…
so on the weekend, this is what I created:
1. 9.5 x 9.5 album for CFK (Crop for kids)
2. 8 x 6 album for CFK
3. 9 x 9 layout for CFK
4. another 9 x 9 layout for CFK
5. index card for E’s challenge
6. 8 x 6 album for BB newsletter class and photographed the whole procedure
7. “paint” layout for BB and photographed it for an upcoming newsletter class
8. layout for my book
9. altered a photo for possible publication (we won’t hold out breath…we know how my stuff is UNPUBLISHABLE unless of course I publish it meself!! :0)
10. digi layout for book.
11. the 3 really UGLY layouts i ripped up. i have only done that a few times in the past. this was a record “ripping up” weekend. BUT if i HATE it, OUT SHE GOES!! i can’t stand to look at it so i don’t.
that’s it. jeesh, not as impressive as i thought before I wrote it down. i suck.

Impressive is as impressive does, missy! harumph!
ohhhh, looking forward to those upandcoming BB newsletters with your STUFFFFF!!!!!!!
Hi, T! looking foward to seeing your flowers.
Yes, I plan to do the last BA challenge…as soon as I kin.
(I’m in the middle of organizing my SH’s surprise 40th bday thingie which is early next month, soooo….I want to make the invitations myself, so that’s what I’m mulling on right now…oh, and a couple of layout ideas…and an album idea for my dad’s retirement…and a bday album for my sister…and a couple of projects for a local scrap portal…and……)
I’m gonna start having to do like g and stop sleeping. I’m already up until just about 2 am most nights, farting around reading peoples blogs and looking at scrap crap!! Oh, what’s a nerd like me to do…
hope you are all having a good day. bfn 🙂

Hey, all you knowledgable seasoned scrapbookers and more importantly ALBUM MAKERS:
I need to put together a retirement album for my Dada. It’s going to contain letters, photos, etc. from “people from his past” that we have contacted to send stuff back.
So I am looking for a good album that would serve that purpose–one you could maybe add pages to if needed.
I know dick on toast about commercial scrapbooking albums. I was thinking I would just make one (an album) my self. More personalised (duh) and more fun.
Non?
So I’m thinking of doing pages with eyelets and rings to hold the whole thing together, and do some sort of groovy cover and back cover.
any suggestions? advice?…words of warning and/or council?
thanks, all you gps!!

Yah, I was gonna rant about how people on that post were whining about the “bad words” too…and like, reality is, some people swear.
And some of us even ENJOY IT!!! 😉 like whoopie ding.
I say STICKS AND STONES, people!!!!
It reminds me of a time: I had this friend (female), and I, on one occasion, used the C word at one point when I was talking, and she literally has a hissy fit in the chair, waving her arms in front of her and wiggling around saying “ohmygodohmygod!! don’t say that word! don’t say that word!!!” and then covers her ears and is shaking her head back and forth.
And I look at her, totally gobsmacked. I say “are you fuckin serious?” and she says “GOd! yah! of course I am. I can’t stand that word. It’s totally disgusting. I hate that word…”
And I said “I think you have an issue there. There should not be ANY words, ESPECIALLY ones that refer to my BODY that can have an effect on me, on my personal power. NOBODY is going to use a WORD at me that will take away my power. I think that’s pathetic. It’s like that bit in the Vagina Monologues, right? Like what’s the big freaking deal about saying the C-word. I figure WE should OWN THAT word. It belongs to US, not to any bDs! (sorry, r!)…so if that chick wants to carry on squirming and squealing every time she walks by a construction site or flips through some soft porn while sitting in waiting room of her dentist’s office (heh heh), that’s her perrogative. I say STICKS AND STONES.
It’s sort of like how when somebody farts, kids always laugh. The adults all pretend they didn’t hear it or even worse, look at the kids with sour looks on their faces, like that’s inappropriate behaviour and that’s not suposed to be funny.
Well I have news for those sour pusses. FARTS ARE FUNNY. always have been, always will. I think they were MEANT to be funny.
Like think about it!! what else have you had a good chortle about today??? At least you can laugh at a fart if nothing else!!
